The Agricultural Society in Renfrew will have to wait a little longer to find out if Council is on board with the proposed Rogers tower. Council tabled the motion until the next meeting, in hopes of adding some conditions to their letter of concurrence, should they decide to issue one. Judy Dobec says the delay is causing some concern for the Society.
Meanwhile, Reeve Peter Emon recognizes the value of, and need for increased broadband and cell coverage to the community.
Mayor Don Eady voiced his frustration with Roger’s continued absence from the table of discussion. A representative of LandSquared, Dom Claros, was on hand to speak to Roger’s intention and the safety of the tower, but the communications company continues to decline invitations to speak in chambers. Council was concerned with the location. Councillors Arlene Jamieson and Mike Coules inquired if the business had considered putting the cell tower on municipal property. Claros explained to council, factoring in coverage reach and required setbacks, the fair grounds were the ideal location for placement. Dobec says, if approved, the revenue from the tower would go a long way to improving buildings and grounds for future events. She also said it would also benefit the annual fair. The final yay or nay decision does not belong to council, but Industry Canada. Council is merely invited to comment on the proposal. The matter is expected to return to council on November 26.
