A meeting with 19 municipalities including the County of Renfrew, all 17 local municipalities and the City of Pembroke has taken place to look for efficiencies. Deep River Reeve Glenn Doncaster says the meeting took place October 23rd and it’s the first time in his five years at the county they’ve had this type of conversation. Doncaster says they talked about sharing services and the potential for other municipal savings. He says earlier this year local municipalities were given around $10-million to split to find efficiencies.
Doncaster adds some potential savings could come around recreation facilities, libraries, fire, snow plowing, HR and IT services. In Deep River he says they have a partnership with Laurentian Hills surrounding their landfills, work with CNL to provide fire services and other things like the Pembroke and Area Airport. Doncaster says a date for a next meeting hasn’t been set yet, but they will continue forward with discussions on efficiencies with neighboring municipalities.
