With little ones hitting the streets tonight filled with Hallowe’en excitement, local police want to make sure everyone stays safe and has fun. The OPP is providing safety tips for parents and children for October 31st. The OPP says you should never trick or treat alone, stay in familiar neighborhoods and only go to homes that are lit up. You’re also reminded to never go inside a house to get your treats and have candy checked by an adult before you eat it. Constable Shawn Peever with the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says trick-or-treaters should avoid wearing dark costumes.
Other tips from local police include wearing make-up instead of a mask that may reduce your visibility, avoid baggy clothing you can trip on and always cross the street at crosswalks and intersections. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and be on the lookout for trick-or-treaters.
