The OPP is reminding pedestrians that safety is a two way street. The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment says you should always keep safety in mind whether you’re out driving or walking. Police are stressing the importance of being visible to traffic when out walking or jogging after dark or in low light conditions. Officers say it’s safest to walk on sidewalks and if none are available always walk on the shoulder of the road facing traffic and be as far away from passing vehicles as possible. Local police also say you should wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Pedestrians are being reminded that drivers can’t avoid what they can’t see and motorists should cut the distractions, look ahead, drive within the speed limit and allow time to react to unexpected situations.
