A crowd of residents wanting Arnprior to rescind its decision not to maintain sidewalk-plowing of Arthur and Charles Streets in the community packed Council Chambers Monday.
They went away disappointed.
What even some Town councillors had expected was that the meeting would hold a vote to reconsider the matter.
In the end the staff report that was presented at Monday’s municipal meeting only upheld the Town’s reasons for making the original decision back on June 24th.
Resident Aaron Veleke says the Town squirmed its way out of any commitment to their concerns.
Mayor Stack found councillors were held hostage to their own Procedural By-Law; if they wanted a vote to reconsider the sidewalk plowing, they’d need a 2/3 majority to do so.
Five votes were needed to do this, and, according to the Town’s rules, it was case closed.
