If local teens had had a chance to vote, Cheryl Gallant would still have remained the MP for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke. Those are the results following a mock election held in schools across the riding. Gallant garnered nearly 31 percent of their vote cast during Student Vote 2019. However, their choices for the remaining candidates didn’t quite fall in line with the election results we saw this morning. Students supported NDP Eileen Jones Whyte with just over 20 percent of the vote, good enough for second place. That was followed by Green Party candidate Ian Pineau with nearly 15 percent support, and Liberal Ruben Marini garnering just eight percent of the ballots cast. The Student Vote program has students learn about the electoral process and research the parties platforms before casting their vote in a mock election.
