A physiotherapist from Pembroke is running as an independent candidate in the upcoming federal election. As an independent candidate, Dheerendra Kumar says he will bring local issues to parliament, not what the party leaders are trying to push. He adds his platform includes making life more affordable, better loans for students, providing accessible child care at work, more long term care beds, and bringing more mental health services and doctors to the area.
Other items on his campaign agenda include respectful use of firearms, making the government responsible for their actions and starting a public inquiry on the Ottawa River flooding. Kumar is one of 10 candidates on the ballot for the upcoming election for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
Kumar is running against David Ainsworth of the People’s Party of Canada, Robert Cherrin of the Veterans Coalition Party of Canada, Independent candidates Dan Criger and Jonathan Davis, incumbent Conservative Cheryl Gallant, NDP nominee Eileen Jones-Whyte, Libertarian Stefan Klietsch, Ruben Marini of the Liberals, and Ian Pineau of the Green Party. The federal election is October 21st with advance voting taking place over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
