All of the candidates except the one currently representing the riding showed up to an all candidates debate held in Killaloe. The Renfrew County National Farmers Union hosted an all candidates debate for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke at the Lions Club on Saturday night.
9 of the 10 candidates on the ballot for the upcoming federal election were in attendance including, David Ainsworth of the People’s Party of Canada, Robert Cherrin of the Veterans Coalition Party of Canada, Independent candidates Dan Criger and Jonathon Davis, NDP nominee Eileen Jones-Whyte, Libertarian Stefan Klietsch, Independent Dheerendra Kumar, Ruben Marini of the Liberals, and Ian Pineau of the Green Party.
All of them were asked how they felt about incumbent Conservative candidate Cheryl Gallant not being in attendance with similar answers. Rounds of applause broke out as the candidates expressed displeasure about the current Member of Parliament (MP) who failed to show up to speak to constituents.
Other topics discussed surrounded climate change, rising water levels, creating local jobs and keeping youth in the area. There’s another all candidates debate scheduled for Wednesday October 9th at the Agricultural Hall in Cobden and a meet and greet the candidates on Tuesday October 15th in Deep River.
