Multiple organizations, stakeholders and members of the community came together to learn about freshwater issues, stewardships and watershed planning in the county. On Tuesday night local representatives took part in the Freshwater Partners Renfrew County celebration at the Whitewater Brewery in Cobden. Chair of the Bonnechere River Watershed Project and project lead for Freshwater Partners Renfrew County, Kathy Lindsay, says they are looking for letters of support from stakeholders in the community as they apply for funding.
Lindsay says they have been operating on a $30,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant that helped pay for a part time coordinator, but adds with the size of the county this needs to be a full time position. The grow grant they are applying for is up to $250,000 a year for two to three years. Board member John Brady says collaboration is important as they move forward.
Brady says there’s a lot of people concerned about the quality of lakes and rising water levels and says together with “One County, One Voice” they’re stronger than several independent organizations.
