Greater Madawaska Township Mayor Brian Hunt has identified a common problem that municipalities share over policing costs.
Hunt explains the unfairness of the situation.
Hunt say in extreme cases, local taxpayers are subsidizing the policing payment on behalf of the building’s owner.
He would like regulations changed so that policing charges can be assessed on the individual’s local tax bill.
Hunt raised the matter under the New Business section of County Council’s meeting last Wednesday (September 25th) and will introduce a notice of motion to discuss the issue at Renfrew County’s meeting in October.
