A request to proclaim June 20th as Waterpower Day and to become waterpower champions, is set to return to Renfrew Council during their first meeting in October. A delegation from Ontario Waterpower Association was in chambers, touting the benefits of water power, including fighting climate change, the fact it’s renewable and a green energy. When speaking to council, Stephanie Landers also noted it strengthens local economies, reduces a community’s carbon footprint and creates a sustainable low-carbon future. As waterpower champions, the charter indicates a commitment to the use and expansion of local waterpower, conserving and enhancing manmade and natural environments and to work together to create opportunities.
