The Renfrew County Legal Clinic is still in jeopardy of closing if funding cuts continue. Executive Director Amy Scholton says this year they lost about $20,000 in funding and would have lost another $22,000 if it weren’t for the support of local municipalities and MPP John Yakabuski. Scholton says they were able to restore funding to the small seniors budget with all the local support they’ve received.
The Executive Director of the Renfrew County Legal Clinic says she’s making presentations to all local councils to get letters of support. Scholton had the full support of Laurentian Valley council at their municipal meeting earlier this month. When we spoke to her, she had just two presentations left to make to Killaloe and North Algona Wilberforce townships. She says because they’re a rural clinic, the impact of funding cuts is greater. She adds they were able to make it work this year, but there are a lot of unknowns for next year.
