Police have laid charges against a Petawawa man after an incident on Highway 17 late last night. Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say they got a call shortly before midnight that a vehicle was being driven dangerously on the eastbound highway in the Cobden area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled, continuing eastbound at high speed, swerving into the westbound lane. The vehicle eventually left the roadway near Renfrew and rolled onto its roof. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was injured. Initially, his injuries were thought to be very serious and he was airlifted to an Ottawa hospital, but it turns out the injuries were not life-threatening. The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the OPP says its officers who responded to this incident prevented serious injuries, or worse. A 33-year old man from Petawawa has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from a Peace Officer. He is due for a bail hearing at a later date. His name has not yet being released.
