Police in the Pontiac and all over Quebec are cracking down on motorists who continue to use hand held devices while driving. A distracted campaign is underway and continues until September 26th. Distracted driving continues to be one of the leading causes of deaths and serious injuries on roadways and you can be fined even if you’re simply holding your phone in your hand, regardless of the situation. If your vehicle is on the road, you’re considered to be driving and use of your phone, or other hand held devices is prohibited even at red lights, stop signs and in traffic jams. People caught distracted driving face a minimum fine of $484 and five demerit points. Repeat offenders could lose their license.
