The Special Investigations Unit is not laying charges against an OPP officer following an investigation into a complaint of a fractured elbow allegedly sustained during an arrest. The SIU says a 51 year old woman was physically removed from her Mother’s Barry’s Bay home following a domestic complaint on August 5, 2018 and charged under the Trespass Act. Upon her release, the woman went to the St. Francis Memorial Hospital where she was diagnosed with the fracture. Video footage obtained by the SIU revealed no evidence the OPP was involved in the injury. The SIU’s report indicates the woman was swinging both of her arms and doing stretching exercises in her cell with no apparent issues. The video confirms officers spoke with the woman and examined her elbow prior to her release the following morning. The investigation was closed Friday. The SIU says there were no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against the officer involved in her arrest.
