The Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS) Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo in Laurentian Valley was a huge success. The annual event showcases the best municipal drivers by promoting safety, courtesy and professional public works driving skills. The Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo was held at the public works garage in Laurentian Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. AORS President Phil Wilson says over 800 drivers competed in their local associations, with the top 35 drivers in Ontario participating in the finals.
Wilson says contestants had to drive a plow truck through a challenging obstacle course and were marked based on performance. He adds Laurentian Valley was an excellent host community and he looks forward to coming back to the area with his family in the future.
The AORS President says the winners get to take home a bit of cash and bragging rights as the best municipal truck driver in Ontario. This year Jeff Nielson of Northumberland County was the champion, Joe Ennis of Lanark County took home 2nd place and there was a tie for 3rd between John Gleeson of Lanark County and Erik Ramaker of Huron County. The top contestant from Renfrew County was Phil Daber, who placed 6th overall.
