Fire Chief Kevin Welsh and the Renfrew Fire Department will take time this morning to remember and honour the victims of September 11, 2001. It’s a morning that we all remember far too well, when terrorists hijacked four planes to attack the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon in Washington and downed a plane in a field in Pennsylvania, claiming more than 3000 lives, including those of first responders. At 9:55 this morning, all available fire trucks and personnel will gather outside of the Fire Hall. They’ll lower the flag and observe a minute of silence at 9:59am, the time of the south tower collapse in New York 18 years ago. Following that minute of silence, the flag will return to full staff and the department will return to its daily responsibilities. Members of the public who wish to attend, are invited to do so.
