The International Plowing Match will not be coming to Renfrew in 2021. The location where most of the campers would have been staying didn’t have the proper drainage, according to Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon. Emon says the proposed location on the land near Mat-E-Way is built on older farm land with clay drainage that has the possibility to collapse. He says it’s possible to be repaired, but would have taken one to two years and wouldn’t have been done in time.
He says while the county isn’t planning on hosting the games in 2021 anymore, the goal will be to bring the event to Renfrew County for 2025. County staff will be evaluating sites for the next bid they submit and attending the next two or three games to get a proper sense for how to host a successful event.
