Martial Laverdure is a free man. Earlier today (Wednesday), Justice Adriana Doyle dismissed the charge of dangerous driving causing death case in the 2015 death of Ernie Hall outside the PMC. The move comes after a retrial was ordered over errors made in the original trial. Laverdure was previously sentenced to 22 months in jail after he struck and killed former soldier Ernie Hall on January 11th, 2015. Hall was leaving a Pembroke Lumber Kings game when he was hit by the SUV driven by Laverdure. Hall’s Brother Pete, spoke to myFM news outside the courthouse following the decision. As expected, he’s pretty disappointed.
Defense lawyer Jodie Primeau argued that the lighting was well below what’s necessary for high pedestrian traffic areas. Court also heard that the victim was wearing all black, making him harder to see. Which Justice Doyle took into account when making her decision.
