East Region OPP Officers laid nearly 300 charges during Operation Safe Trucking, August 18-24th.
The region, which ranges from Prince Edward County through the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment including Lanark County, and the Renfrew and Killaloe Detachments saw 20 full vehicle inspections, resulting in ten vehicles being taken out of service for unsafe conditions.
Charges laid included 7 distracted driving offences, 72 speeding infractions, 23 speed-limiter violations, 47 seatbelt charges, 32 moving violations, 18 defective equipment counts and 90 notices for improper documentation.
Officers also issued 120 warnings for various issues.
“Increased enforcement during this initiative almost certainly prevented serious incidents on our roadways,” according to Inspector Paul Bedard, East Region OPP Manager of Traffic and Marine Programs.
Police remind you Safety is a shared responsibility, and you should call 9-1-1 immediately if you suspect a serious violation.
