This Friday, Canada’s largest-ever contingent of paralympic athletes invades Lima Peru to take part in the Parapan American Games, running until September 1st.
Among them wil be two Valley athletes: Anne Ferguson of Carleton Place and Jolan Wong of Pembroke, who are teammates in the sport of Sitting Volleyball.
Canada will be participating in 13 sports: Boccia, goalball, Para athletics, Para badminton, Para cycling, Para judo, Para swimming, Para table tennis, Para taekwondo, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis.
Para badminton and Para taekwondo are making their Parapan Am debuts in Lima, one year before they enter the Paralympic program for the first time.
Canada’s team is aiming for a top three finish in the competitions in preparation for Tokyo 2020.
