A woman from Renfrew has won herself a new car. As a part of the first ever Driving Generosity raffle and Dinner En Blanc event, over $50,000 was raised to support the Child Poverty Action Network (CPAN) in Renfrew County. When he found out the charity of choice was CPAN, Jimmy Lapointe decided to donate a 2019 Toyota CHR in memory of his son Zachary, who passed away five years ago. CPAN’s Executive Director Lynn Smith, says Sheila from Renfrew had the lucky ticket and was thrilled to pick up her new vehicle last week.
Smith says because the location of the dinner was a secret until the week before and they had to have a location on the lottery license to indicate where the draw was taking place, they decided to draw the winner at the Pembroke council chambers and live stream it to the guests at the dinner. Smith says funds raised will be used for programs offered by CPAN like tools for schools which provides about 1,000 children in Renfrew County supplies needed to succeed in the classroom.
