Some old scams are making a come back. An Admaston Bromley resident recently received a call from someone claiming to be a lawyer. They were told their son was in a car accident and was being held in custody. The resident was then told to withdraw $5,000 and deposit into an account if she wanted her loved one to be released from jail. She later contacted her son, who told her he was not in custody, and then reported the scam to the OPP. You’re reminded to verify the identity of the caller before handing over any of your hard earned money. Police say it’s important to keep calm and don’t let the caller play on your emotions or create a sense of panic. Scammers use that sense of urgency to pressure you into making quick decisions. Do not forward any funds or hand out your financial or personal information without confirming who you’re dealing with.
