The OPP is putting out a safety message after four people were killed over the long weekend. Police say two men aged 27 and 41 were killed in separate off road vehicle collisions. Alcohol and excessive speeds are said to have played a role in one of the incidents. Provincial police also say two other men aged 29 and 37 were killed on patrolled roadways. Driver inattention and excessive speed are the primary causes of death. Despite letting drivers know about the move over campaign, officers laid 355 charges against drivers who failed to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles and tow trucks on the side of the road. Aggressive drivers made up most of the traffic offenses over the long weekend with police in Ontario laying 4,837 speeding tickets with 148 people caught doing 50 km or more over the posted speed limit. With lots of summer left the OPP is reminding you to have a positive influence on friends and family members, encouraging them not to speed, drive impaired, buckle up and wear a helmet if you’re in an off road vehicle.
