Extremely dry conditions require extra attention and caution.
The Madawaska Valley Fire Department (MVFD) was called to a blaze in Combermere on Friday.
A fire at the intersection of Byers and Combermere Roads required quick action from both the MVFD and citizens.
Six fire trucks and 16 firefighters arrived to find residents already at the scene helping to quell the blaze.
The fire was close to a pine plantation that fire officials say would have added to the fire.
The fire was extinguished in 40 minutes. MVFD says it used over a thousand gallons of water over an area of 400 square meters.
The cause of the fire was found to be a discarded cigarette on the shoulder of the road.
The fire occurred less than 24 hours after a level 2 fire ban was issued for the Township.
Madawaska Fire Department praised the bystanders who helped combat the fire – without their help, the situation would have been a lot worse.
