The best equipment operators in Ontario will be crowned at the Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo coming up in Laurentian Valley. The event looks to showcase the best of the best in municipal public works departments. One of the organizers and former director of public works for the County of Renfrew, Steve Boland, encouraged officials at the City of Pembroke to allow public works employees to attend the event. Boland says the 2-day roadeo and trade show will be held at the municipal office in Laurentian Valley on September 10th and 11th.
Boland adds roughly 100 visitors will be coming to the area to attend, providing a local economic boost. The Association of Ontario Road Supervisors Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo started 25-years ago. Boland says each year, the top drivers are awarded trophies, plaques and cash prizes along with bragging rights. Drivers will have to go through an obstacle course with the snow-plow wing attached to better simulate real-life driving experiences. Last year, John Gleeson of Mississippi Mills was crowned driver of the year and will be invited back this year to defend his title.
