A new online search tool will help residents across the Upper Ottawa Valley learn what goes where when it comes to recycling. The Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre has rolled out the new tool on its website. Now, you can search for almost anything when it comes to waste disposal. Sue McCrae, General Manager at the Centre says if an item is suitable for reuse, the search tool will inform the user of that. If an item can’t be collected curbside because it is hazardous waste, you are then given instruction on the proper disposal methods. According to the stats from the search tool, milk cartons are among the most frequently searched for items. That tells staff that more education is needed to inform residents that milk cartons belong with your bottles and cans for recycling. The search function was launched back in March and to date, 650 users have searched over 1,200 items.
