Both the Ontario SPCA and the Humane Society warn you that pets are extremely vulnerable to high temperatures and humidity.
Officials remind you to take extra caution with your pet during the current heat wave.
Parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures; don’t ever leave your pet alone in a vehicle, even in the shade with the windows slightly down.
Pets should only be left outdoors for short periods, should have sufficient water and a cool, sheltered place out of direct sun.
It’s also recommended that you walk your pet in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler.
Pets that are older, overweight, taking certain medications or with certain medical conditions, are also more susceptible to heat exposure.
If you observe an animal suffering in the heat, call 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625).
