A long awaited announcement this morning by the province. Dignitaries from the County of Renfrew joined local MPP John Yakabuski and members of the Ontario government at a news conference in Renfrew, where it was announce that the twinning of Highway 17 from Scheel Drive to Bruce Street is now in the Province’s Five Year capital plan, which means the much needed funding has been committed. Construction on the four lanes is expected to begin in 2-3 years. When it begins, the work will also include four new interchanges and is intended to ease traffic congestion and improve safety along the 22.5 kilometres of the route over which over 14,000 vehicles travel every day.
