Fibre optics will be laid this summer between the towns of Renfrew and Arnprior. Cogeco is expected to send out a request for tenders in the coming days. In the township of Horton, work will be done on three road crossings, two bridges and six culverts along their portion of the Millennium Trail. Road and culvert crossings will be directionally drilled below the bottom of the ditch or the invert of the culvert. However, Cogeco doesn’t want to drill under stream beds and says they’ll anchor the line to the underside of the bridges instead. Charles McDonald, manager of Public Works in Horton isn’t sure he likes this method and he’s not sure why they’re not going under the stream beds. He says lines are already there and should be accessible. Further discussion is expected to take place, and in the meantime, residents will be notified by Cogeco with a door knock and a flyer.
