Renfrew Nipissing Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant wants the federal government to come up with the cash to help residents impacted by this year’s historic flooding. Gallant, in a letter to the Prime Minister, has asked her federal counterparts to provide direct flood assistance that’s both fair and comprehensive. She says many residents are still trying to recover from thousands of dollars spent out of pocket two years ago to repair damage from the 2017 flooding, only to be hit again this spring. Gallant says, “While provincial authorities are prepared to provide partial assistance to flood victims, with a cap on losses, those programs discriminate between residents of different provinces and the types of dwellings. The federal government needs to act on this request immediately. Property owners and municipalities need time to prepare for next year’s flood season.” She’s asking her constituents to support her calls for federal flood funding by writing to the PM through a link on her website.
