Between 1.5 and 2 million tourists visit Renfrew County on an annual basis. Chris Hinsberger, of the Ottawa Valley Tourism Association (OVTA), says its easy to do the math to arrive at the conclusion that’s big bucks for Renfrew County.
Hinsberger says there’s been a lot of discussion on how changes to Ontario’s Minimum Wage under Bill 148 will impact his industry, but it is a safe conclusion there will be an impact. The OVTA spokesperson says there will be another shoe soon to drop, the proposed Transient Accomodations Tax. Hinsberger says Tourism is still a growth area for Renfrew County, as culture equates to lifestyle, and the healthy lifestyle implicit in living here is our best asset.
