The Municipal Elections in Quebec are November 5th, and the deadline for candidate nominations has passed. In Sheenboro, Shawville and Portage du Fort, a shortage of candidates means that many familiar faces will return. Doris Ranger returns as Mayor of Sheenboro; she has been acclaimed. There were no challengers for the council seats in wards one, two and six, while there are some candidates vying for the seats in wards three and four. In the Village of Portage du Fort, Mayor Lynne Cameron is being challenged by newcomer Nicole Racine Thompson. Four of six councillors are back unopposed, while in ward 3, an incumbent faces one challenger– and two newbies go head to head for the fifth council seat. Mayor Sandra Murray of Shawville will face a race. She’s being challenged by fellow councillor William McCleary. Two newcomers are seeking council seat four. Donna Andrew is vying for the job against Jamie Christie. However, there were no other candidates vying for wards 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6, so all seats will be filled by the current councilors, with the exception of ward 2 – where newcomer Denzil Yach was unopposed.
