U.S. MILITARY CONVOY COMING TO PETAWAWA 8/11/2012 9:25:58 AM
Many motorists will get a big suprise on Sunday (Aug 12) as American army vehicles will cross the Thousand Islands Bridge near Gananoque in the morning, enroute to CFB Petawawa. The 70 vehicles will be travelling east on Highway 401, north on Highway 416 through Ottawa and then west on Highways 417 and 17 to Petawawa. Drivers may notice large Armoured Fighting Vehicles called Strykers, similar to the armoured vehicles used by the Canadian Army in Afghanistan. The purpose of the massive convoy is so American troops can take part in a joint training exercise with the Canadian Army. The exercise in Petawawa involves about 1,000 Canadians from the Army Reserve and about 500 National Guardsmen from Pennsylvania. The exercise is expected to last about a week.
